Sydney Metro City & Southwest was a 30-kilometre rapid transit extension linking Chatswood to Bankstown via a new twin tunnel beneath Sydney’s CBD.
In the city centre, major underground station boxes were delivered at Martin Place, Central Station, Pitt Street, Victoria Cross and Waterloo. All were engineered to house expansive platforms, concourses, and vertical transport systems, with excavation depths exceeding 25 metres in constrained urban environments. These complex builds required precision construction methods to manage heritage interfaces, active streetscapes, and high-density surroundings, creating critical hubs for Australia’s first fully driverless metro network.
